I AM CURED! Well I'm still coughing and such but I'm doing MUCH better! Thank you so much for your prayers! I think they really helped! This week we did a lot of finding again... Because we don't really have too many people to work with. In Koga everything was pretty far so we rode bikes pretty far to things and things were never too much the same. Here it's a lot smaller and everything is really close so we've been doing the same thing pretty much everyday. We have good conversations and get phone numbers and stuff but nothing really happens after that. I have faith that someone will want to hear our message though!
This week I got to go on my first real exchange! Meaning I went to a different area and stayed in a different apartment for a day! It was a ton of fun! I worked with Elder Pelfrey from Washington! It was seriously the best! Being a young missionary I haven't had too much of opportunity to see the different ways of doing missionary work or how other missionaries do certain things so exchanges are my favorite! We started by having a talk about my area and what we were doing. We talked about a lot of things and he just kept on saying man.... You just get it! And you're gonna be an apostle! We went out to a place where a less active lives we looked up where he lives and started heading out that way. We said hi to a guy and to have something to say we asked him if he knew how to get to this place. We call this lost missionary work! He looked it up on his phone and I was gonna say something because it took a long time but he looked it up and he said hold on let me go get my bike. He ran.. Literally ran to go get his bike and was like I'll take you there! He walked with us for 30 minutes and helped us find the house. He knocked on the house like he was going home teaching with us! Haha he was so cool! Anyways the man wasn't home but we were able to find an awesome guy! They are meeting with him soon! I know we were led to go visit the less active man and that even though he wasn't there something great came from it. We were meant to go there and find Lin!
That night we had a lesson with kojima who is a man who is getting baptized soon but elder Pelfrey told me we want to make sure that he has a testimony of the gospel and not just of the missionaries being a light in his life. He says that he thinks any church that can make young men like that is probably teaching good things. I asked him if he has felt that light that he sees in himself since he met the missionaries. I also told him how we came about becoming the way we are and told him about the things that have helped us in this church. The spirit was very strong when he told us about how much he has changed. We definitely found that he has a testimony of the church. I found the importance of allowing people to have opportunities to testify to us. Too often missionaries just testify and testify and teach. I think that nothing gives someone more of an opportunity to feel the spirit then testifying to us. Sometimes we need to hear it from our own mouths and tell someone in order to gain a testimony of it. He's getting baptized at the end of this month!
This exchange was really good for me! At the end of the exchange we had our review and elder Pelfrey told me that my biggest strength is I like to communicate and I'm good at it, which he says is really rare. He said I have a really good understanding of what all of missionary work is not just teaching and finding. He told me a lot of other things that I really needed to hear and throughout the day he kept on saying you're an Animal! Before the split I was having some doubts of my ability as a missionary but he helped me realize at I'm not awful! I still have a ton to learn but I don't think I can learn those things if I don't feel like I'm ever improving. He helped me realize I was doing ok :)
CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK!
Well this is random but grab some candy that I know you have laying around the house.... Put it in your bag or pocket and give it to someone random! I call this spreading Christmas cheer! Obviously it's not Christmas but I looooooooved doing this back home! It can really make someone's day so try it and make someone's day a little sweeter!
Tweets of the week!
For Eikaiwa (English class) this week we taught opposites! I taught my class about Opposite Day and told them that actually it is today! I told them when we are done with class to go around telling people Opposite Day things! One of them went up to a sister and was like "your glasses... Ugly!!! It's Opposite Day!" I felt like I just scored a touchdown! it was so freaking funny!
Ito Kyodai... The one I play Uke and guitar with... We were talking about Utah and he's like yeah when I go I always see the nunokawas in kaysville they are my good friends and I'm like WHAT!?????? I KNOW THE NUNOKAWAS! #smallworldagain! #wahhhhhh?!
You know you're in Japan when... You don't have to shuffle to get around so you think the room is huge! #youknowyoureinjapanwhen
I never knew receiving cereal would bring me this much happiness! #thankyoumomandschryvers!
I was pretty much sure I would have to add money to my train card to get out of the gate but i had EXACTLY enough money to get through #churchistrue
Ran into a sister I became friends with in the MTC when I was on exchanges! She had to come home because she was sick ;( but I am so glad I saw her! I love her! When we were in the MTC together whenever she saw me she'd just laugh hysterically and clap her hands literally every single time I saw her! #whatarethechances! #godsplanisperf #prayforyoshiokashimai
I posted on Facebook for the first time it was the weirdest thing in the world... Also I couldn't talk like I usually do so I felt like an awkward missionary... #mishlife #backonfb
When they gonna have Twitter missionary work? #bethechange #twittermission #comefollowme
I was pretty sure I was going to be the first social media missionary....
Dear Elder @kengojames you have hereby been called to the Instabook, Twitter mission... You should prepare to preach the gospel in the #modernenglish language.
Stopped a guy at night and started asking where he was going and if he was from around here and stuff. He thought we were the cops! Bahahahahaha #FREEZEyouneedthegospel!
Love you lots and lots like lemon drops! Not like the ones that are cheap either like those ones that are like just sour enough and just sour enough that they taste just perfect! The ones with the perfect texture and they don't run out of flavor fast or change to that like gross texture towards the end so it's like a chore to finish it... Naw like the really yummy ones! :)
Love, Rice, and CEREAL!
Elder Kengo! :)
